BUYER’S GUIDE TO PURCHASING A DEHUMIDIFIER
Daily and Weekly Upkeep
Some products require you to empty them daily and, as mentioned, that can be a little frustrating. If you do have a dehumidifier that requires daily emptying, you should be sure that the process itself is relatively straightforward and simple. If this is the case, you will not be too put out.
Output Strength
The output strength of a dehumidifier dictates how well the unit can keep humidity levels at the required level in a given space. Obviously weaker models will be unable to maintain healthy humidity levels in larger spaces. If you are looking to sill only a small space, you may not need to invest in a large humidifier with a lot of output strength, and so can save a little money.
Reservoir Capacity
If you are looking to run your dehumidifier throughout the night or during long periods of time, the tank’s capacity is extremely important. Units with smaller tanks will require you to refill it regularly in order for the balance of humidity to be maintained. For this reason you may prefer to find a humidifier with a larger tank..
Duration
Duration will depend upon both the reservoir’s capacity and your own choice of setting for the dehumidifier. The duration of a model with a large tank is likely to be longer and will run throughout the night, for example, without you needing to refill it. However, if you select the highest mist output setting, the unit will of course use more water and, therefore, your duration time will be decreased.
Noise Levels
If you’re a light sleeper or you’re looking to place your dehumidifier in a child’s room or your living room, noise will play a huge factor in which humidifier you choose.
CAN DEHUMIDIFIERS HELP WITH FLOOD RESTORATION?
The drier the air in your flooded area, the faster it will dry. To achieve this you’ll need a dehumidifier which can be rented from an industrial equipment rental store or bought on Amazon. Combined with the dehumidifier, we suggest using an air mover (a special fan) which will pull moisture out of your dry walls, carpeting and framing material. Here are a few dehumidifiers to try when doing flood restoration:
Eva-dry Edv-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier
Compact, reliable and efficient, the Eva-Dry Petite Dehumidifier packs a punch for its size. As Eva-Dry are known for designing some of the best dehumidifiers, we decided to give the Eva-Dry Dehumidifier a try. Due to their built-in Peltier technology (explained later on in the review), the Eva-Dry Dehumidifiers can be used in rooms up to 1,100 cubic feet in volume and collect up to 8 ounces of water per day.
Ivation GDM20 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier
The Ivation GDM20 dehumidifier is another reliable product made by Ivation. If you are looking for a dehumidifier to use in a small space, then this is worth your while. Working in a similar way to a vacuum cleaner, these types of dehumidifiers suck air in, remove the moisture from it and then blow it back out again. The moisture collects in a small tank which can be removed, emptied and then replaced.
